It is the time of year that either brings joy or sorrow to your house! Many parents wait anxiously for the kids to return to school so they can have the schedule and routine back. While others miss their kids terribly and sometimes struggle to plan their time accordingly. Whichever category you find yourself in, here are some suggestions:
- Meet your child's teacher
- If it is a new school, tour the school with your child
- Establish your routine and communicate it with your child
- Create a list of morning routine tasks to keep everyone focused (you can even and use white board marker to check off each day)
- Find after school activities for each child (but don't over plan)
- Create a family calendar
- Keep READING every night
- Familiarize yourself with how your child will keep up with/plan for assignments and projects
- Create after school routine for homework, play, snack, sports etc...
- Pack backpacks or sports bag the night before
- Ask each day: Tell me your favorite thing you did today (or 3), tell me something that bothered you today that we can talk about
- Figure out best time of day to schedule doctor or dentist appointments
